Yesterday evening news began to spread of a car bomb attack in an attempted prison break by the Islamic State in Hasakah city, targeting a prison run by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. The clashes resulting from the attempted prison break are still ongoing as of now. Below is a live interview with a close friend who lives in Hasakah city regarding the current situation. It is useful in my view to hear the experiences and thoughts of the civilians living in proximity to these events. Please do not treat these events as some opportunity for breathless tweeting and analysis about an Islamic State "resurgence."

Q: In which neighbourhood do you live? And what is the situation in the streets? Have the shops been closed?
A: I live in the al-Mufti neighbourhood near al-Aziziya neighbourhood. The situation since the hours of the morning has been in a state of tension and fear with a curfew. Also the shop owners have been made to close their shops, even the food shops, and now the streets are completely empty and deserted...[continued]
