Owing to poor communication channels with the outside world, al-Qa'ida's general command is typically slow in issuing statements on recent developments. Here, the group predictably praises the Taliban's victory in Afghanistan as an example of the importance of defiance, trust in God and the unity of the Muslim Ummah even in the face of an adversary that has superior numbers and equipment. The group hopes the Taliban's victory in Afghanistan will prove a stepping stone to free other Muslim lands from enemy occupations and tyrannical governments, to be replaced by implementation of the rule of Islamic law. At the same time, the group calls on the Afghans to obey the Taliban government and not rebel against it, and for the rest of the Muslim community to support Afghanistan at this time.
